From ancient times to the modern era, fashion and makeup have been closely intertwined, influencing each other and reflecting cultural, social and aesthetic changes over time.
In civilizations such as the Egyptian and Mesopotamian , makeup was used for both aesthetic and religious purposes, while fashion reflected social status and position in society. During the Middle Ages , fashion and makeup were influenced by religious and moral norms, with more sober and modest colors and styles.
In the Renaissance and Baroque , fashion and makeup became expressions of opulence and power. Royal courts and European high society adopted elaborate makeup and elaborate hairstyles to highlight their wealth and status. The fashion reflected a pursuit of idealized beauty, with luxurious clothing and exuberant embellishments as seen in the 1998 film Elizabeth.
During the 19th century and early 20th century , fashion and makeup underwent radical changes due to the industrial revolution and cultural and social movements. Fashion became more accessible thanks to mass production, while makeup became popular with the introduction of commercial products. Victorian fashion reflected a romantic and ornate aesthetic, while makeup focused on a pale complexion and rosy lips and cheeks.

In the 20th century , fashion and makeup became tools of personal expression and liberation. From 1920s fashion with its short skirts and red lips to 1960s fashion with its hippie style and natural makeup, each decade has had its own distinctive aesthetic. Today, fashion and makeup have become more inclusive and diversified, reflecting the plurality of identities and lifestyles in modern society.
Catwalks present fashion collections that inspire makeup trends, while designers collaborate with makeup artists to complement their creations. On the other hand, makeup has also become a form of personal expression and an essential component of individual style, complementing clothing and reflecting each person's identity.
