The evolution of beauty standards in makeup advertising has been a reflection of changes in society, cultural attitudes and fashion trends over time.

1920s-1940s:

During this era, makeup advertising began to reflect the fashion and style of the jazz age. Lipstick ads often featured women with dark, defined lips, inspired by the popular "cup lip," while blush and eyeliner were used to highlight the eyes and cheeks.

1950s-1960s:

At this time, makeup advertising began to promote a more traditional, feminine standard of beauty, with an emphasis on a more natural, youthful appearance. Mascara and foundation ads often featured models with long, curly eyelashes and flawless, rosy complexions.

1970s-1980s:

With the advent of the feminist movement and the counterculture of the 1970s, makeup advertising began to reflect a greater diversity of styles and looks. Products were promoted that allowed women to express themselves more creatively, with bright colors, lips and eyes.

1990s-2000s:

During this period, makeup advertising began to focus on a more modern aesthetic. Ads often featured models looking fresh and natural, using products that enhanced individual beauty.

The last one is the evolution of beauty standards in makeup advertising from 2010s-present:

In recent years, makeup advertising has evolved into a celebration of diversity and inclusion. Products designed to suit a wide range of skin tones and beauty types have been promoted, and models of different races, ages and genders have been featured in advertising campaigns.

Throughout these decades, makeup advertising has reflected changing beauty standards and responded to changing consumer demands. From the dramatic looks of the 1920s to today's celebration of diversity, makeup advertising continues to be a reflection of the society and culture in which we live.
