There are many natural ingredients that are beneficial to the skin, but some may cause irritation or adverse reactions when applied directly, among which are:
Lemon: Its high citric acid content can be irritating and photosensitive, causing blemishes or burns when exposed to the sun.
Vinegar: May be too acidic and cause skin irritation or dryness.
Baking soda: Although it has exfoliating properties, it can be abrasive and unbalance the pH of the skin, causing irritation.
Cinnamon oil: Can be irritating and cause burning sensations or redness on the skin.
Citrus fruit peel: Contains essential oils that, when exposed to the sun, can cause burning or staining of the skin.
Garlic: Can cause irritation and burns when applied directly to the skin due to its strong compounds.
Black pepper: Its pungent component, piperine, can cause skin irritation if applied directly.
Peppermint leaves: Some people may experience irritation due to the essential oils present in the leaves.
It is very important to perform patch tests before applying any ingredient directly to the skin. Also, it is always advisable to seek professional guidance if there are doubts about the safety of certain ingredients. I am sharing this list with you because I once burned my skin with garlic and lemon by trying recipes from the internet.
