Micropigmentation has come a long way since its first applications to become a widely recognized and used technique in the world of permanent makeup.

Over time, micropigmentation evolved into a more refined and technical form. In the 20th century, with the rise of the modern makeup industry, micropigmentation began to gain popularity as a semi-permanent alternative to conventional makeup. More advanced techniques were developed and synthetic pigments were introduced that offered longer lasting and more realistic results.

Dr. Zwerling, an American dermatologist, is known to have used the term "micropigmentation" for the first time in a scientific study published in 1986. Zwerling used this term to distinguish the pigment implantation technique used in permanent or semi-permanent makeup from the traditional tattooing process. This distinction helped establish micropigmentation as a separate discipline within the field of cosmetic dermatology and permanent makeup.

In the 1970s, micropigmentation experienced a renaissance with the introduction of the microblading technique. This revolutionary technique allowed the creation of hyper-realistic eyebrow strokes by manually implanting pigment into the skin, resulting in a natural, defined look.

The practice of employing this technique on eyebrows is thought to have originated in Asia and became common in Singapore and Korea around 2005, later spreading to Europe and the United States by 2010. By 2015, microblading had positioned itself as the most sought-after method of tattooing eyebrows in Europe and the United States. In addition, popular designations such as 3D or 6D eyebrows emerged. From then on, micropigmentation became popular around the world and became a preferred option for those looking to improve the appearance of their eyebrows in a long-lasting way.

In the following decades, micropigmentation continued to evolve with the development of new techniques and technologies. Advanced methods of pigment implantation were introduced, such as digital micropigmentation, which allowed for greater precision and control in the process. In addition, the scope of micropigmentation expanded beyond the eyebrows to include lips, eyes and other areas of the face and body.

Today, micropigmentation has become a thriving and growing industry, with a wide range of services available in aesthetic clinics and salons around the world. From correction of sparse eyebrows to lip enhancement and eye definition, micropigmentation offers solutions for a variety of aesthetic needs.

In addition to its use in the beauty field, micropigmentation has also been used in the medical field to camouflage scars, reconstruct breast areolas and correct dermatological anomalies. Its versatility and durability make it an attractive option for those seeking long-lasting, high-quality results.
