The Golden Age of Hollywood, which spanned roughly from the 1920s to the early 1960s, makeup played a pivotal role in the film industry. It was a period of great innovation and development in the field of makeup, as movie studios sought to create a glamorous and dazzling image on screen.

One of the reasons makeup was so important during this era was the transition from silent films to talkies in 1927. Which shifted actors from expressing themselves through gestures and movements to implementing their voices. This meant that their appearance on screen became even more crucial, as the audience could now see and hear the actors in action.

During this era, movie stars became icons of fashion and beauty. Actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor defined beauty standards and their makeup styles were imitated around the world.

Professional makeup artists were established in movie studios to create specific looks for each film and character. Max Factor, an influential makeup artist of the time, founded the first makeup school and developed products for film use.

Voluptuous red lips were a distinctive feature on many Golden Age movie stars. Intense red lipsticks became popular, and the precise application of lip liner became an essential technique. Dramatic eyes were also a key trend. False eyelashes were used for a more intense look and eyeliner became more pronounced, emphasizing the shape and appeal of the eyes.

A flawless, radiant complexion was a constant in Gilded Age makeup. Foundation and powder were used to achieve smooth, even skin, enhancing the radiance of the movie stars' skin. In addition to facial makeup, they also paid a lot of attention to body makeup. Makeup artists used special products to tan the skin and highlight the muscles of male actors, creating an athletic and attractive appearance on screen.
